Grist Mill and the RAVEN Intelligence Platform Partner to Turn Commercial Data Into Decision Advantage

Grist Mill, a Veteran Ventures Capital Fund I portfolio company and provider of commercial data infrastructure for government missions, announced on September 2 a partnership with the RAVEN Intelligence Platform to turn commercial data into operational intelligence for defense, intelligence and national security teams.

Grist Mill's infrastructure gives government customers access to more than 375 vetted data vendors, with the licensing, acquisition workflows and business processes handled at scale. RAVEN is a sovereign, entity-centric intelligence and AI platform that deploys within customer-controlled infrastructure, including sovereign cloud and air-gapped environments, and applies localized, model-agnostic AI while preserving data control and analytical provenance. Together the two allow mission teams to resolve fragmented records, analyze information in context, surface emerging indicators and keep the provenance of every analytic step.

"More data does not automatically lead to better intelligence. The real test is whether it sharpens the picture and helps mission teams make better decisions faster," said Jennifer Obernier, CEO of Grist Mill.

"The intelligence advantage is the ability to understand what is happening, see what is changing, anticipate what may happen next," said Laura Buckland, Director of the RAVEN Intelligence Platform.

The announcement follows Grist Mill's August partnership with Ocient and its rebrand from Grist Mill Exchange to Grist Mill at the end of August. Veteran Ventures Capital invested in the company through Fund I.

VVC's view: Grist Mill keeps appearing beside the platforms that intelligence teams use, Ocient in August and RAVEN now, because the hard part of commercial data for government is the licensing and procurement workflow rather than the analytics, and that workflow is the layer Grist Mill has built. Each partnership places that layer inside another analytic environment without Grist Mill having to become an analytics company itself, which is how a data infrastructure business compounds. We expect this list of partners to keep growing.
